Bruce and Pat left Sunday morning for Gocek about an 8 hour run for us. There was a break in the weather so they made a dash for it. Their boat is 57 ft and will go 12 kts about twice as fast as our dash. I had made the decision to go with them but then relented after studying the weather and reasoning this is likely as good a spot (it's free too!) as we are going to find anywhere in Turkey... "indecision may or may not be my problem." We are going to try to move on either tomorrow or Wednesday and go straight for Marmaris - about 18 hours on the water for us. If the weather is right we may even be able to do some sailing.
We have made the tourist trip to the sunken city, the sunken sarcophagus, the Lycian way, and the castle. We are actually anchored right under the castle. There is a great grave yard complex right outside the castle on a mountain, nestled in a pile of wild flowers and clover. There are many stone sarcophagi carved out of a solid block of stone similar to the Egyptian ones but not as ornate and left above ground. Bee city! Random goats. We have been going into town for lunch and internet, and a small grocery. Big sheets lying on the ground full of heaps of oregano leaves drying in the sun. I paid 3TL ($1.75) for a big plastic bag of oregano and one of sage. We have eaten up most of our fresh groceries from Kemer and will need some water eventually.
There is no ATM here, or even a gas station. The Vodaphone is not working well here... should have gone with Turkcell. One of the computer batteries developed a short. The small internet computer is acting up but Skype and the cell phone continue to work well.
Doug and Shanna from Hobnob are still here and I think are looking at a Wednesday departure as well. They are rowing and hiking up a storm. Katie is looking at baking some cookies this afternoon - a major project on a boat with a kerosene oven... I expect I should find something to fix.
