Pipedream
Fri 12 Jun 2009 20:26
We finally left Bermuda yesterday, Thursday , around 9:00 AM.  Perfect timing as the Pride of Baltimore was also leaving with several other tall ships and we managed to get a cannon salute. As we went out there were at least 5 tall ships getting ready to race.  We had to wait to get out to let the Coast Guard bark enter  - filled up the whole channel.

The big news is that we took on another crew member in Bermuda.  Matt Ondra, 27 and an experienced sailor from Allentown, Pa. decided to join us for the trip at least to Lisbon.  Even after telling him about the refrigerator not working he decided to come. Matt has proven to be a real find already.  He was able to coax about 8 Kts out of Pipedream.  Of course the 15 kt breeze helped too.  He has already been promoted to sailing master.  He also knows some Spanish.

Sailing yesterday and today was  great.  We managed to cover 130 miles yesterday.  At times we have been surfing down the faces of waves at over 9 KTS -yahoo!.  Of course we are getting used to the motion of the boat all over.  That is except Matt who just arrived in Bermuda the day before we left.

Just picked up the weather for the next couple of days.  Looks pretty good for now.  More Later.
