refrigeration to save fuel. We had both fishing lines in the water
yesterday when the drag started singing on one. After all it is time to
catch fresh food. John quickly grabbed the rod and got into the appropriate
fighting stance and noted that the fish had taken off and was now in front
of the boat? John fought the fish for a good 20 minutes which included us
first slowing down the boat and then turning it back on the fish. All under
sail - go Matt. By this time I was helping John pull back on the rod which
was literally doubled over. three eyes on the heavy duty rod broke off and
the rod started making popping sounds. John put on some leather gloves and
started pulling line in hand over hand. By this time we could get
occasional glances at Monstro' ... about five feet of yellow tail tuna!
Sushi tonight. John wrapped the line inadvertently around one finger... the
finger or the fish. Pow he was gone just like that. All in all a great
fight and If we would have gotten 110 pounds of really pissed off fish into
the boat then what? We maybe could have eaten 5 - 10 pounds of meat each
before it started to spoil? I at least have a mangled rod as a souvineer.
Seas continue to be rough. We are making 5 to 6 Kts tacking across 25 Kts
of wind blowing dead east with a double reefed main up ... that is all.
Conditions are supposed to moderate tomorrow... a welcome change it comes.
All is well.
