Lakkas in an overcast sky and motored about two thirds of the 35 miles to
Preveza. About two hours out it opened up and started to rain hard enough
that it was time for rain gear etc. Chuck was able to coax another knot out
of the boat with the main. Up the 2 mile channel through the mud flats and
Cleopatra marina appears to the right. Nice new marina just completed.
Nice restaurant, several beers tzeki ( yogurt, cucumbers and garlic ) olives
and lots of bred. We ended up there for about three hours and finished with
a chicken schnitzel - lots of Germans in the marina.
Today we took the bus in the tunnel under the mud flat to the actual town of
Preveza and a sight seeing expedition to Nikopolis. ( a town built by
Octavian Ceaser to commemorate his win over Mark Antony and Cleopatra at
Actium) It turns out that Actium is just about where the marina is now
located. Nikopolis is pretty ruined and has not been rebuilt. We got there by taxi and there were two guards there in civilian clothes, no admission fee, no other tourists. It took us about an hour to see the whole thing. We cabbed back into town and had lunch, a second place for bacalava, and then found a nice little outside Taverna, with lots of locals for drinks. We are back at the marina and all have the rest of the day off.
Congrats to Chris who started a new job in Seattle... front man in a winery at the tasting bar. He even gets to bring left overs home... as soon as he get one.
Time for my afternoon nap... more later.
