Ok, so we just had to anchor out one more time before going to the big city. We sailed about 50 miles up the west coast of Mallorca to a natural harbor called Soller. Neat little town. It turns out the harbor was active from prehistoric times and for yeas occupied by the Romans and then by anyone else who could get there in force. These parts were harassed by Arab pirates so they built their town about two miles inland from the harbor. Unless the pirates were really determined they could only get at what was directly on the coast. Matt has named Soller his favorite harbor so far.

The guide book said be prepared to anchor in the summer as most of the slips fill up. We got in about 4:00 PM and the whole harbor was full of anchored boats by about 8PM. Boats were anchored real close to each other as well. There was a trolley/train that had been in service from around the 1900's that took you into town for 4 euros. At that price each they could afford to maintain it really well. For my rail collogues... narrow gage, concrete ties, at lease 6 sets of equipment, and a conductor in each car.

Nice little shops in the town. They apparently had the orange and lemon franchise before Valencia took over. Great local orange ice cream. I had a glass of OJ that was so sweet it tasted like a candy drink. We stayed an extra day we liked it so much. The sangria was also very good.

Currently motor sailing to Barcelona about 40 miles to our north at this reporting. It will be a bitter sweat land fall. Mary and Chris will be leaving for sure and likely George will be checking flights as well.
