Pipedream

Either too much or not enough... today it's not
enough. After heaving too last night to get some quality sleep and a good
meal made the wind started picking up during Matt's watch at about 4 AM boat
time. (I have no idea what time zone we are in so we have just kept thins on
Bermuda time) Choosing Matt as the Sailing Master was also one of Captain
Wayno's better decisions. "Find someone better than you to do a thing and
then get out of their way!" Other sailors often ask me how Pipedream sails
works etc. I usually respond with something like the boat is still better
than the sailors using her. This morning Matt balanced the sails, the
staysail (a little sail in the front) and the reefed main for about 4 hours i.e.
no autopilot and the boat steered itself. When the wind shifted and
dropped he then did it again with the Genoa, staysail, and full main for another
4 hours without having to steer.
We generally used today to clean up the inside of
the boat and try to dry things out. . Clothes and bedding. We only made
about 45 miles yesterday I was able to fix the autopilot although I am not
sure we need it as long as Matt is on board. I also cleaned up the
connector for the radar and it looks like it is working at least until it gets
wet again. I will be pretty important when we get closer to civilization
again and big ships. Especially around Gibraltar.
I think Chris is feeling a little better. He
is up in the cockpit talking about how he can't wait for a major grease fix when
we get to Horta. He is also looking forward to climbing the 7000ft volcano
in the Azores... although I am not sure which of many islands it
on.
George has run out of books and is now reading our
'fishing for crusiers' book and has at least two poles out at this point.
A tuna steak would be great for tonight's dinner. We are only able to make
about 3.5 knots at present.
The boat looks like a traveling Gypsy road
show. There are cushions, clothes, and bedding drying everywhere on
deck... since we haven't seen another boat all day who
cares! |
