We left Ios early in the morning and started sailing in about 22kts of wind. We actually turned of the engine and were able to hold a steady 7 kts. At dusk we put into an Panormos anchorage on Astipalaia. There were only two other boats in the anchorage. We dropped the anchor and waited for the boat to snub up and then put the engine in reverse and were not moving anywhere.

Fired up the grill and made some Greek sausages we had bought in Ios. About 3:30 AM something woke me up - the wind was blowing pretty hard I went on deck to check things out. Thunder shower. When you swing at anchor on a dark night it is pretty hard to tell if you are really moving. I checked the chart plotter and we had moved a little. There was a rock faced mountain about 3 boat lengths on two sides. that we had admired just before dark and how the goats were lined up on the top watching us. At about 5:00 AM there was no doubt that our anchor was dragging. Fortunately we drug toward the main channel into the anchorage and not up on the rocks. I tried to start the engine just in case and the starter made that sickening click click sound. We dumped another 50 feet of chain out and the boat caught and swung into the wind. By this time we were all awake and made some coffee and took off at first light after I finally got the engine going.
.
We had a rousing sail into Tilos about 60 miles averaging 6 to 7 kts all the way. We got to Tilos right at sunset and were able to back into a spot on the wall with not issues. The chartered boat next to us has a bunch of people from Riverton Wyoming. Wonder how you learn to sail in Wyoming? 20 Euros for water ( we were getting short) electric, and moorage. Dinner was at a beach front place where we joined the rest of the German tourists for some schnitzel and a Greek salad. Long day....
