We safely made the mainland of Italy. Our original destination was Capri
but we diverted to a place called Agropoli that the pilot book said was the
closest safe port to a place called Paestum, ' said to be the finest Greek
architecture in Italy'. Seems like a strange place to study Greek
Architecture but a good time is where you find it... Tied up on a renta
pontoon for 60 euros no showers or toilets but running drinkable water. Key
Stone Cops docking... the prices are going up and the service is getting
thinner. We walked the little town and stopped for coffee in the town
center. Lots of folks cursing the light fantastic. We plopped down and
watched the world go buy or about an hour.and then went for a pizza and two
bottles of Canti Classico. We all came back to the boat and George
proceeded to string his hammock on deck while Antony went out for a walk -
throngs of young women hanging out around the boats.
In the middle of the night I was awaken by a large bang. You tend to here
most stuff going on on deck quite well on a steel boat. A knot on George's
hammock let loose. I shouted to George... no answer. Then went up to
investigate. He had just managed to get out of the tangled mass of fabric
and went below to finish the night and wait for any bruises to show. In the
morning he said a knot on one of the hooks had let go. George says Chris
was probably practicing some new knows in Svalbar... We plan to go to Greece
town today where George, the architect will lecture on Doric columns...
