We are tied up side too on the outer dock. Came into Naousa and four guys were waiting with open arms to help us into the dock. Looks four Israelis in the boat behind up. I'll try to do some research on Christmas. The whole crew went into the harbor town for a beer and a gyros. Gyros is actually pretty popular here. I thought it was one of those American Greek fantasies. Katie pointed out that the Tzeeke is getting more cucumber and less garlic the further south we go.

We are supposed to get a 30 knot blow tonight so wanted to make sure we had a decent anchorage. Motor sailed most of the way wind on our nose. We left Mykonos with a 26 knot tail wind and arrive with a 15 knot head wind. The wind gods must not have expected us to leave Mykonos when we did and it took them a little time to get the wind shifted around on our nose.

I ran into Bruce and his wife, Americans with a 50 foot something or other sail boat at Mykonos. First met them in Amalfi on leg 2. They are also going to winter in Turkey a little south of us. I hope we can connect up with them when we get there. Everyone I ask agrees that the hot set up into Thira is to make Ios (30 miles due south of here) and then take the ferry in as there is not decent marinara on Thira.

Delos was a great place to visit. As it turned out we could have anchored right off shore 500 meters according to the sigh and dingyed in. It looks like only about twenty percent of it has been recovered from the vegetation and collection of assorted debris. A little scary to wonder off in as there are wells and cisterns all over the place... and no lawyers in Greece. It has not been extensively restored yet and is more or less like it was left after the pirates sacked it in 69 BC killing all 20,000 inhabitants. It must have been magnificent in it's day. A reminder that no matter how smart and successful your country becomes you have to keep enough of a security force hanging around to keep the bad guys away.

We had a good planning secession last nigh and were able to firm up the rest of the trip. The Martins are going to stay until we reach Rhodes, around the 22nd, and then leave for their flight home via Athens. We also decided to skip Kos and Bodrum for now and hit Simi and a few extra days on Rhodes. Making our entry into Turkey at Kemer I hope will be easier. We can hit Bodrum on our way back north. The Greeks supposedly take a dim view of folks that go back and forth between Turkey and Greece. It's about 8:30 PM here and time for dinner... more later.
