An 0630 start for
the short trip to Ayvalik- we were keen to get there as we would be meeting up
with Rob & Sarah of Serafina, and also because they had warned us that the
checking in paperwork took them nearly all day!
We had a short sail
with 10 knots of wind behind us for a while, then it came around and headed us
so we used the iron topsail. No point messing around when you're in a
hurry!
By 1130 we were bows
to in Setur Marina, Ayvalik. This would be the first time we had paid for
moorings since Marmaris (other than the 88 cents harbour dues in Kos!), so
this was going to hurt! Ouch! 40 euros a night! Won't be here long
then!! They didn't even have a shower block because it was being
refurbished, so it wasn't exactly value for money!
Howvever, it was
great to see Sarah and Rob and Serafina, and as we were told we couldn't leave
the boat till we had been given clearance by the health authorities (swine flu
panic) there was nothing else for it but to invite them on board for a beer,
while we hoisted the 'Q' flag (I think that probably defeats the object but we
weren't bothered!)
We got our paperwork
started as soon as we were allowed off the boat, and then of course it was time
to get out the coffee machine so Rob could get his fix.
The paperwork was
long-winded and expensive, but was finally finished by early evening, and we
were legally checked back into Turkey. What we hadn't realised, however,
was that our visas ran out on 8th June, so we needed to give some thought to
renewing them.
We had a lovely
evening on board Serafina, and retired to bed none too early. No matter,
we were not planning an early start next day.
