Day 139: Wednesday 22 March 2011. Laurentia
campsite, near Hobas, Namibia. S27 14.902 E018 18.249. Distance driven
123 km
When I entered Namibia from Angola, without really thinking about it, on
the entry card I asked for 14 days, and that is what they gave me - until 30
March. We visited Home Affairs in Keetmanshoop to see if I could get a few
days extension. It turned out to be much more complicated than I had imagined
and would have taken all day and cost N$ 450, so we declined and will have to be
over the border on the 30th.
After stocking up with food and diesel in Keetmanshoop we headed back out
on the D608 towards Hobas where we are to meet Garth on Friday night. As we were
passing Steinfeld Motors we "dropped in" - a 6 km driveway - to see them
and report all well with the LR. We then headed another 30 km down this
really beautiful gravel road and turned in to the Laurentia campsite where Elsia
has made a beautiful campsite with a lot of hard work, no money, lots of
imagination and a very artistic approach. We camped early and enjoyed the
solitude of the open savannah ringed by mountains and I went for a walk with her
labrador and a swim in the river. It is a 2 km rough Land Rover track to the
river but, even down there, Elsia has created a lovely
campsite. |
