Day 67: Monday 10 January 2011. Le Karite Bleu,
Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. Distance driven 18 km.
Today's missions were to get our Ghanian visas and the
get the Land Rover (and ourselves) thoroughly clean. We found the Ghanian
Embassy quite easily and put the applications in. They will be ready
for collection at 1100 tomorrow so we'll pick them up then and head off out of
Wogga.
I got the car cleaned externally lat night and the filth
washed off bunged up the drains at the Total gas station! I took it back
today, having emptied out the interior and had then clean it inside, front and
back. They started off by blasting it with a compressed air hose that
expelled kilos of dust. Then they washed out the inside. I then
spent all afternoon taking everything out of the far back, dusting or washing it
off outside the hotel and cleaning the whole rear compartment. We have
moved kilos of sand and dust and it looks very smart - hope we are finished with
dirt roads!
We had thoughts of shipping the Land Rover from South
Africa to Australia in the future but it really would not be practical as we
could never get the vehicle clean enough to meet the Oz entry
specification. The African dust is in every nook and cranny and we'll
never get rid of it.
