Day 6: 10 November 2010. Fuente Obejuna, Andalucia. N38 15.970 W005 25.250  Distance driven 447 km

Today dawned bright and sunny but outside it was bitter cold in the still strong wind, upholding Salamanca's reputation as being Spain's coldest city. We drove down to the old town, parked in a  side street and walked across the bridge to the old cathedral.  Neither of us had seen such an absolutely splendid building and we sat in awe and gazed at it's splendour, wondering how such design and craftsmanship has endured since the 14th century.  We then wandered over to the Plaza Mejor but it was rather an anti-climax after the cathedral.

Heading south once more we ate up the miles in sunshine on the A66 until it became so hot in the cab that John was falling asleep and Jenny had to drive until the lunch stop, just north of Caceres.  We pulled off the main road and brewed up tea and cooked the Sainsbury's fish cakes which had become defrosted in the fridge. Delicious!

After lunch we stopped for fuel at Alcuesca and then motored on, taking the N432 for Cordoba.  We again elected not to camp in view of the cold weather and wind so pulled off into the village of Fuente Obejuna, perched on top of a hill amid a labyrinth of narrow streets and about 100 km from Cordoba.  After a false start at the Meson Rural bar, we obtained directions to the town's one-and-only hotel, the El Comendador where we took a room and parked the Landy in the courtyard round the back.
