On Friday after a slow start, nearly having to
motor we had some great sailing with the code Zero, often doing 6 to 7 knots in
7 to 9 knots of winds, impressive sail, thanks to Peter Sanders of Sanders Sails
for that. At the 1100 local time SSB net call it was interesting to note
that only Garlix and oursleves were still sailing out of the 5 boats furthest
west. Same situation at the 2000 role call. Our wind was dropping though and by
2130 local time we succombed to motoring, the wind was down to 2 to 3 knots and
our boat speed was down to 1.3 knots. So thats how it is now. No doubt Makena
and Juno are now in Hiva Oa, with A plus 2 expected sometime soon. We are
wondering if Garlix is still sailing or if they too have had to start motoring?
We shall see soon enough. We are hopeful, looking at the weather GRIB files that
there will be some wind later, we would much rather be sailing than motoring.
Spare a though for those further East though, some of them were averaging 2
knots and they have over 1000 miles to go, too far to motor and it looks like
wednesday before they have some sensible wind.
