Carango lead this small fleet to the penultinate anchorage at Maré - we have two catamarans [one American and one Australian] with us: A new meaning herding Cats.

We set off from our idyllic week in the Baia de Todos de Santos at Salvador and Itaparica island and other anchorages - with our new temporary crew Katherine from fellow yacht Into the Blue.

She lowered the average age of all the crew we have had on this circumnavigation by a bit - she settled into life as one of Las Carangas well, having recovered from  an early bout of sickness. She has been standby crew as Vicky and I have been trying to prove to ourselves that we can do a longish passage with just us two.

The conclusion is - WE CAN DO IT - so we are going to try on the next legs of 230 miles from Cabadelo to the islands off the  coast at Archipélago de FERNANDO de NOROHNA. Then the big one of about 2,000 miles from there to Grenada maybe via French Guyana. That route we have yet to decide.

On this short passage Northwards we have dodged tankers, cargo ships and numerous unmarked [by AIS] fishing boats.

Also which has been quite a major change we have sailed close hauled to the wind, tipped over on the starboard tack with barber hauler and running backstay rigged on the staysail and partial yankee and main and mizzen all highly hauled in. Carango goes very well to windward and we have held off challenged from the 62 foot Oyster - very satisfactory!
