Courtesy of William and Serena Ansell we have stayed in total luxury in Hamilton Island, in Hayman Island and we are due in Lizzard Island next week. Hayman Island luxury - the home team on an ornithology trail. An indigenous BUSH STONE CURLEW A rare Australian hunting Owl A Sulphur Crested Cockatoo this cheeky bird is magpie like in that we were told it is very intelligent and is apt to steal jewellery and food from yachts - this one tried its luck on Carango and was unsuccessful - I am glad to report. This gull with his smart red legs and his friends are everywhere. We also saw Dusky Moorhens, Egrets, and amazingly a group of flying foxes. These are not blind radar hunters but have good eyesight and furry fox faces. The also have wingspan of about two and a half feet. |
