They talk in hushed tones down under about the Gagari Rip where we were told you find swirling currents of over 12 knots. Tidal planning is the order of the day and we get lots of advice from around the bars in Gove. We even get radio advice from the Royal Australian Navy training vessel Youth Endeavour II. There are those who say go in the first hour of the ebb which is an hour later than the ebb at Gove, others say chose slack tide and yet more swear by the hour before the flood tide.

We prepare, scrap the plans and prepare again - then we go for it.

William and Serena survey the Rip gap. Steady at the helm

OMG having to concentrate at 14.7 knots through the race - are we in control? Of course after a fashion!
We exit the Rip. What an experience !
