Just after a sumptuous lunch - pretending that the skippers bun baking efforts were delicious - and whilst we were trolling a lure, provided by Richard Illingworth fishing trainer and Guru, (a beautiful pink feathered number) from our boat rod - the reel sang and we only just made it back to grab the reel before the backing ran out. The speed of line deployment and the noise were impressive. We could not move the reel at all such was the pressure - we handed the Yankee sail and wound in the mizzen sail and Carango slowed slowly to a stop. Still the reel wouldn’t move the weight on the line - so we had the start the engine and motor back up the line reeling in using the waist rod holder (cod piece). The line went slack - not a good sign - so we somewhat despondently reeled in until again ………………. a tremendous pull which added to the excitement. A prize 3 Kg Mahi mahi - the biggest fish we have caught so far was landed. ![]() ![]() Next we need to eat it, ![]() |
