When we were in Isola di San Pietro last week we met Mike and Mary who were living on a large expensive Princess yacht capable of consuming 350 litres of fuel per hour [boosted my financial morale considerably] and they told us of an amusing couple “Harry and Margo” who were moored in Alghero. Alghero is quite a large port with about 6 marinas - we chose what we thought looked the best small marina and booked in and arrived to find ourselves coming in alongside Harry and Margo - much hailing of new friends took place and we also met Peter and Anne from Yorkshire [next boat up] so drinks turned into an excellent supper and we had a fun evening.

Alghero turned out to be a charming fortified old town with a modern version next inland. Very pretty narrow cobbled streets with many trattorias and Gelato shops.

Approaching from the sea.
Vicky in full shopping mode.
We spent two very happy days here and it would be well worth noting to come again.

We set off tomorrow morning towards Corsica and Bonifacio.
