In the final hours of our Atlantic crossing we were amused a wonderful display of nature. As Carango ploughed through the Ocean she scared and displaced large numbers of flying fish to right and to left. These are remarkable fish and can fly quite long distances and control their direction avoiding large waves and skirting round hills of water until at last their energy is dispersed and they ‘crash land’ into the water. We were then joined by a group of about 6 boobies - there are several species of booby and we identified these as ‘brown boobies’. They are elegant birds and very graceful and powerful in flight. There antics were hugely entertaining as they circled the yacht waiting for flying fish and then either grabbing theses fish ‘in flight’ of diving down into to sea at high speed to grab them under water - marvellous spectator sport.
We and Carango acted as the ‘beaters’ and here are the guns. Some of these diving hunts are successful and some are  not but one thing is for certain these birds fling themselves into the ocean at very high speeds with n o apparent damage.
