Marvellous Monday
Today is Marvellous Monday because we are just
about to enter Chesapeake Bay and tonight we will tie up in Annapolis.
Hooray!
Did I say Marvellous Monday? We have thick fog at
the moment with visibility down to 50m. If there is one thing I hate worse than
sailing in lightning it is sailing in fog. Any prospect of taking avoiding
action to miss a ship is very, very small. A great thought when you are coming
into one of the busiest waterways in the USA! Oh, and did I mention that we had
lost our radar reflector? It was blown to pieces in the big winds, so now the
ships cannot see us on their radars either. Marvellous Monday!
The fod is caused by warm air over cold sea. After
crossaing the Gulf Stream yesterday we no longer have tropical sea temperatures
- this water comes from the frozen north.
But it is not warm air over cold sea, it is cold
air over colder sea. It is cold here. We could be in Biscay 6 weeks ago. Back to
getting in the sleeping bag fully clothed.
Another thing about Marvellous Monday. A few hours
before we arrive in Annapolis a front will come through so we can look forward
to being cold and wet tonight.
Marvellous Monday? Pah!
