Wednesday,

Well... there  isnt much to say today after last nights spectacular display from a pod of porpoises, it has been rather quiet on the wildlife front, the sea is much calmer and the wind is blowing a steady 3/4.. wind is still a little chilly but we do have some sunshine today which i am about to make the most of... but first i am going to start the Cif-fing, we have to make sure the stainless steel doesnt rust with the sea water, so we give it a good going over with some cif, every day or so, and any specific rust patches we use a toothbrush and give them a quick scrub.. so today is sunny so it should be not too an arduous task... and later on im cooking dinner, so i wont have a nap this afternoon, im next on 8pm watch so ill just get my head down for a few hours at 10.
ooh today i have been able to wear my snood as an Alice band, instead of a scarf, so the temperature is definately hotting up, i do feel like im 8 years old again though...
see you later..

Alexa was writing a little too early. During my watch I mentioned to her that we would check the halliard for wear tomorrow morning. After my watch ended at 1700 I started reading a book and was part way through the acknowledgements when the halliard parted and the main fell down. We had had the main up at full hoist for 22 hours, a really short time. I went up the mast to rig an external halliard but the motion up at the top was too much for me to be able to hold on. I came down to the spreaders for a rest and had a lifeline sent up so I could strap my body to the mast and then went up to the top again. This time the knot holding the block (through which we were going to run the main halliard) came undone and the block fell down to the deck, so I came down again. By now my arms were exhausted and had no strength left for me to go up again. Greg volunteered, went up and dropped the shackle whilst he was trying to attach the block so he came down, we gave him another shackle, he went up and did the job. When he came down he was also completely exhausted. Two hours after the main fell down, we are now fully sorted, the main is up and we are sailing again, looking forward to the delicious pasta supper that Alexa is cooking.#

Just to point out, i did volunteer too, and was very much involved in the re hoist of the sail and not just in the galley cooking... i did make good pasta though...

Thursday
Not much sunshine today. Patches of blue sky and occassional drizzle. Very light wind during the night so we were motoring.
