We have now crossed the rain belt with its light winds and are in typical trade wind conditions and should make steady progress from now. We should arrive in the Virgin Islands in 10 days where we will stop briefly to replenish fuel and water and clear US Immigration.

This morning we had a brief glimpse of a whale about 100m in front of us but our engine was on for charging and it disappeared fairly smartly.

Yesterday we shortened the main halliard about 3m to removed the chafe points from full hoist and first reef (which have developed despite adjusting the main halliard an inch ot two every 12 hours). The unaffected sheath will be spliced into the halliard tail to maintain its overall length.
