Not the best of starts on our 2015 trip. We finally
got away from East marine ,Chester on Sunday the 26th of April. Two
frustrating days getting our new furnace (Eberspatcher heater) working and
stepping the mast.A very enjoyable last supper of fresh lobster with Hans and
Phil. We handed the hire car in and vacated our rented house in Chester and set
sail on a 29 n mile shake down journey to Lunenburg. Six mi9les later we got a
fuel blockage and the engine died.(no wind) Two hours later we had blownn the
pipes and cleaned the filters and we were back on the way. An hour later the
Chart plotter expired and we sailed the rest of the way using Navionics on an I
Pad.Trouble is we can only use the Radar through the plotter! so no radar. We got
to Lunenberg and organised a spare plotter I had at home to be despatched to
Yarmouth. hopefully arriving in 2 or 3 days time. The weather was good so we
sailed on the next day to Shelburne eighty miles away. Everyone here are so
friendly. The policeman had to make sure we were in April as I think we are the
only boat in NS on the water this year !By the way as we entered Shelburne it
was snowing! Today the weather has turned nasty and won't improve until
wednesday so when rape is inevitable relax and enjoy it! If we get to Yarmouth
any earlier we will only be waiting for the plotter to arrive. There could be
worse places to be shipwrecked We are berthed on the yacht club quay with happy
hour from 1630 until midnight!
