We have just woken up in Port Alexander at the
south end of Baranoff Island and the weather is back to normal - raining - foggy
- and windy - 15 knots on the nose. Not much to see in Port Alex, just a sleepy
fishing village with about thirty people in total. There is a good sheltered
dock where we spent the night rafted up alongside a fishing boat We
will be on our way shortly heading for Prince of Wales Island.
We stayed two days in Sitka - a city of three
culture - Tlingit - Russian and American formally capital of Alaska before the
Americans moved it to Juneau. The history is well documented in the various
museums. I cycled to inspect the local golf course but without crampons and ice
pick decided to give it a miss!
