anchored in Georgetown on Exuma
Island.
We left Conception Island in the morning to dive in
Southampton reef before sailing to Georgetown.Bad start to the day when we hit a
coral head!! fortunately bounced off and no damage done. The dive was not a
sucess with all the coral dead and nothing to see.The guide book said it was the
best diving in the Bahamas, but that was some years ago before acidity killed
all the coral. Next stop Georgetown where we went aground three times before
finding a spot to anchor where there was enough water.
Turks and Caicos and the Bahamas are very difficult
to sail in unless you have a catamarin or a lifting keel. The cut off seems to
be about 1.7 metre draft and we draw 2.2 metres.Still havn't managed to check in
to the Bahamas or for that matter Turks and Caicos.Today is Saturday and customs
don't open until Monday by which time we will be long gone! A rest day today
with sightseeing and chill out on the beach and at Chat and Chill bar. This
evening there is a music festival and tomorrow we leave for Staniels Bay. About
three days to go before we arrive in Fort Lauderdale.
