We left Puerto Williams at 0930hrs this morning on
the long and testing journey up the Chilean canals to Puerto Montt. A distance
of 1300 nautical miles where the wind will be strong and invariably on the
nose.We will be motoring for the most part with little chance to pick up fuel,no
shops and every night at anchor.We can expect Williwaws with wind up to 100knots
at night as the wind blows down from the Andes. Anchoring has to be strong with
two bow anchors two stern lines and sometimes two side lines! This evening we
anchored in Caleta Olla 62nm on and started the learning curve with one bow
anchor and two stern lines.It is wet and cold.We hope the weather will be better
tomorrow when we are hiking to the foot of the Holando and Frances glaciers.We
will then take a short hop of 30nm to Caleta Beaulieu at the foot of the Pia
Glacier.
