On Thursday we passed through Desolation Sound and
the Seymour Rapids berthing in Brown Bay Marina for the night. It is very
important to get the tides right in the channels with currents up to 10 knots in
some places. We anchored in April point for 2 hrs to make sure that we went
through Seymour Rapids exactly on Slack water high tide (slack water lasts for
ten minutes!) The ebb tide then took us on to Brown Bay by 8pm just in time to
eat in the fish restaurant before closing time at 830pm
On Friday the marina and fuel quay opened at 8 and
having refuelled we set off with the tide in our favour proceeding up Discovery
Passage and into Johnstone Strait at a healthy 10 knots. We were hoping to reach
Port Hardy but the current turned and we were down to 4 knots so we stopped at
an anchorage in Port Mc Neil.
Today we had a leisurely start and made our way to
Hurst Island and berthed in God's Pocket.
Tomorrow we will make an early start to cross Queen
Charlotte Strait and get to an anchorage in Calvert Island to Port of Fitzhugh
Sound. It is a short trip of 55 n miles but the Strait can have nasty weather
and once we are back in the inshore passage we can relax
again.
