1200 hrs on Thursday 23 of July we reached 56
degrees north. We left 56 degrees south on the 9th of February so it has taken
five and a half months including three weeks holiday! At Cape Horn it was 14
degrees, the sun was shining, there was no wind and the sea was like a mirror.At
the north end of Revillagigedo Island in Alaska it was 19 degrees it was
raining, foggy, there was no wind and the sea was like a mirror. Where would you
rather be?
We left Ketchikan on Wednesday morning to
circumnavigate Revillagigedo Island and it was a memorable day. The scenery is
spectacular with narrow and deep fiords,high mountains on either side and water
falls crashing down.The tops of the mountains are covered in snow.We saw our
first Orca Whale easily spotted by it's long dorsal fin. As we arrived at the
anchorage in Walker Cove we saw our first grizzly bears,a mother and cub.To end
the day Maciek caught three good sized king salmons.Before leaving the anchorage
we went for a walk up the river bank and the bears were not interested in us at
all! We are heading for an anchorage at Naha Bay and should be there in time to
go by dinghy to the Roosevelt lagoon.
