After bustling St Martin (Caribbean centre for all things boat), we sailed into the peace of Road Bay in Anguilla - there were only 2 other sailboats in the bay.

We headed ashore to try to sort customs but it had moved and we ran out of time so settled for some rum punches and an early dinner in Elvis’s bar at the far end of the bay.

The following morning (Sunday) back ashore and found customs at the main dock who were incredibly helpful and pleasure to deal with. They called the guys from Sandy Island to see if they were open (sand island off the bay with a bar and restaurant but it suffered massive damage in the hurricanes). They had opened just a week before and said they would pick us up from the dinghy dock at 11.30.

The day was stunning - this is the closest we will ever get to having our own private island. Simone the owner and host was wonderful - drinks on the house when we arrived, fab lunch, and great drinks followed. That they had managed to rebuild after Irma destroyed everything on the island was amazing - we went snorkelling and found the massive concrete foundations of their previous restaurant - about 100ft out. Boat ride back to the bay and an evening on the beach with dinner and drinks at bars recommended by Simone, finished off with a fabulous sunset.

Definitely a must see and one to come back to.
