Spent the day alongside the fishing dock in the busy harbour at Husavik. Initial efforts to do laundry at the local campsite failed due to over capacity but Joe took the initiative and persuaded a local hostel to do it for us – 3000kr for two loads – not bad, the harbour master charged us 3500 for a night alongside with water and electric but no other facilities. However, a visit to the excellent swimming pool – outdoor with hot pools was excellent and half price for over 67s.  Husavik is a major centre for pricey whale watching, so we thought we’d take advantage and follow the local boats. We left at 1600 on the 14nm trip to the anchorage on Flatey island. We saw several grey whales and numerous dolphins on the way and got some great photos. We tied up alongside an ancient stone pier in calm conditions and had a walk around the island and up to the lighthouse. Beautiful evening with a low setting sun. Millions of sea birds – puffins, arctic terns, eider ducks, red shanks etc etc an absolute paradise – for birds – with only a few holiday houses and zero development allowed. A great place to visit. Flynn won the prize for puffin stalking and got some great shots.
