Steady progress over the last couple of days with variable lumpy seas and
NE winds between 12 and 25 knots but a daily average of 150+ miles and
reasonably comfortable. An interesting incident yesterday when I was chatting to
Roger on Shango on our afternoon sched.- my starboard eye tooth implant fell out
on to the chart table. Clearly the locum dentist on St Helena was right, her fix
didn’t last. So, first off we tried fixing it back in with some emergency
filling material left on board by Dan some time ago. That didn’t work, but
worse, it fell out again and this time bounced on to the floor and down the grid
into the bilge. Much hilarity from the crew at this stage and a wicked grimace
from the captain. Anyway after removing the grid and grovelling around we found
it again and gave it a scrub. No messing next time – superglue to the rescue. A
quick dab and in it went. For a moment I thought that my thumb and fore finger
were to be forever attached to the tooth, making eating something of a trial,
but the glue let go and the tooth not only stayed in place but has subsequently
passed the apple eating test. Yes we still have fresh fruit. Today we’ve just
made bread and anzac cookies, my a/m sun sight came within 2 miles of our
position and the sun is out. All well on board. |
