Even though it was Friday 13th, the arrival of a
ship on Saturday morning at 0600 which required our dock space encouraged us to
put our superstitions to one side and check out for Mauritius. So late afternoon
we finished the last formalities and threw off the lines and an hour before dark
we had cleared the reefs and were in open ocean once more. Our efforts to keep
the speed down to 5.5 knots to both preserve the jury rig and ensure a daylight
arrival have so far been confounded. Encouragd by a huge full moon, clear skies
and 18 knots from astern we averaged well over 6.5 knots in a lumpy 3m sea - so
with 220 miles to run it looks like an early Monday morning landfall - which is
no problem. Rodrigues was great - nice walks and restaurants but we now have to
focus on getting our repairs sorted, finding a suitable berth and booking flights
home. All well on board.
