We arrived at Cocos Keeling at 1200 local time today making it a 4 day 600 nm run from Java - so we were well pleased. We're anchored just off Direction Island which is just a sand bar covered with scrub trees, ahead of us the boom of surf constantly pounding the surrounding reef - makes a change from pounding us. Yesterday was the usual mix of squalls and wind shifts but ended in a beautiful evening with moon rise out doing the setting sun. It didn't last of course with rain and 25 kt squalls necessitating reefing the main in the middle of the night - Toby did well - amid big swells and confused seas - no one got much sleep. But we're here safely anchored and tomorrow Fi and Toby will dinghy across to Home island since there's a plane load of fresh veg arriving. We'll top up with diesel - at a price - do some snorkling - which is reputed to be excellent, and wait for a few days for a good weather slot to continue our journey. All very well on board.
