We arrived at Angra marina on the is;land of Terceira yesterday at 1830 after a 70nm sail from Horta. We had an ideal mixture of sailing conditions allowing the new crew to familiarise themselves with reefing, helming and downwind sailing. The weather was sunny and clear although all the islands were shrouded in thick cloud so that we even needed radar for a short time when close to land. The marina at Angra is small and a bit tight for berthing but the staff were extremely helpful and after spending last night on a rather rolly pontoon with ropes and fenders squeeling all night, we have now moved to a better spot deeper in the marina. Last night we were directed to a local restaurant where we were treated to some excellent local dishes and wine, all for about 10 euros a head. So now we wait for the next period of light and variable winds to clear before we set off for southern Ireland early next week.
