A difficult day at sea last night and today.Lumpy
seas, heavy rain and variable winds. Last night at 23.30 the forward starboard
lower wire on the mast broke at the top fitting meaning that we had to take the
main down and are now under headsail only - but still doing 5.5 kts and hoping
to be in Thurs - 371 nm to go.Bit annoying since all the standing
rigging was renewed in Phuket about 8 months ago - maybe just a
freak fault - just our luck. It never rains but it pours and did it pour last
night, but sun's out now and all well on board.
