After dinner last night the wind dropped so light that we decided to motor for a while, charge the batteries and make some water. By 2300 there was enough breeze to ghost along at 4 knots hand steering to get the most out of the wind and save battery power by not using the autopilot. From the beginning of my 0200 watch the wind gradually filled in and by 0530 we were able to set the Monitor wind vane steering as the speed rose to 5+ knots. By 0900 we were on a broad reach sitting comfortably on 7 knots dead on course. Real progress for a change. Its now late afternoon and we’re still doing 7.4 knots in 15 knots of breeze. No baking today and we won’t fish again until tomorrow, although Joe did find a shrivelled flying fish under his bunk, they get everywhere. Tim and Maria have been exchanging mind bending puzzles, Marcus has memorised every star and constellation in the sky and Joe has produced some very imaginative footage of the boat under sail on the Gopro. So all busy and progress is good. All well on board.
