It occurred to us that the pleasant 6 hour sail we
had after leaving La Libertad was the first time we had sailed with the wind
forward of the beam since we left Palma, Majorca in September! However since
then we have been motoring and it seems likely that we will have to motor the
remaining 266 miles to the Galapagos.
Last night was peaceful with bright moonlight and
flat seas. Four or five swallow-tailed gulls flew with us most of the night
and we assume that they were hoping that our navigation and steaming lights
would attract fish. We saw pilot whales again this morning but they must have
cleaned out the fish in the area as we haven't had a strike today.
