We have poled out our small headsail and triple reefed the main and are still reaching speeds of 9 knots. The wind is forecast to build from the 25 knots we have now to 40 knots later. We will be putting on the storm jib for that me thinks.
We saw lots of flashing danbouys which mark fishing pots etc last night, so when we approached the second lot we thought no problem, until the fisherman set off a white hand held flare quite close to us because his boat was un-lit. Just a small emergency gybe to avoid him and off we went.
I was thinking about introducing the spinnaker at some point but the wind speed says no.
