Admiralty Bay, Bequia  13:00.67N 61:14.39W

 

Our sail down to St Lucia started off in fine weather with plenty of wind but by the time we were half way there the clouds filled in again and we had overcast sky, and long periods of rain. After a couple of days in the re-developed Marigot Bay we had a fast and furious sail down to Bequia and got the usual 10 knot increase in the wind at the north end of St Vincent taking it up  30 knots, probably consistently the windiest spot in the Eastern Caribbean.  In the process of putting in the second reef in the main we tore it, but with a great choice of sailmakers in Bequia it is now repaired and we have just put it back on. Since our arrival in Bequia the weather has taken a turn for the better and this morning we have a clear blue sky, lighter winds and we feel we are back in the Caribbean!  Yesterday we did our first dive of the season and are due to do a few more next week.

Bequia has been very quiet and the restaurants and the dive operations are having their quietest time for years, not that you would appreciate that from looking around at the number of boats here. Yesterday we were delighted to be invited for sundowners aboard Windrose by skipper Peter Mullins RCC and then dinner ashore.  Windrose is a beautiful and powerful classic schooner of 150 feet. 

 

 

Impromptu RCC Meet.

 

We unexpectedly met up with the Exeter Traffords, Gurneys, and Michael Allo all RCC and with the help of some rum punch held a mini meet!  Our, so far, brilliant wireless internet antenna has died.  Although intended for marine use it clearly does not expect to experience tropical rainstorms and there was a lot of water inside.  However, since drying it out it still refuses to work.  Fortunately we have a backup system so this should still get through.
