We were pleased that on Sunday morning that there
was competition to be committee boat for the regatta so we gracefully stepped
down in favour of one of the local fast launches and spent the day in the calm
of the bay rather than bouncing up and down out at sea! The local work
boats raced around the anchorage and the children had Optimist races while the
wooden yachts were out at sea.
The party and barbeque were wonderfully
informal with free flowing rum, barbequed tuna and a live band. On Monday
we sailed the enormous distance to Prickley Bay about 8 miles where we have been
at anchor since. While in St David's our fridge had initially refused to
work until John shorted out the thermostat which had gone on the
blink. We managed to source a replacement here and John spent a happy
morning upside down in the fridge compartment fitting it with Chris handing him
his tools! Pints of sweat later we have a fully functioning drinks chiller
again. We completed our PADI Open Water diving course with four dives on
Thursday and Friday and now feel very happy under water. We were diving on
the west coast on a beautiful coral garden with masses of fish including
fearsome looking moray eels and baracuda, but no sharks in spite of John
bleeding into the water after knocking his leg.
We are planning some more dives next week so will
try out our underwater photography. It is a mad social whirl here and we
have met up with several old friends and there are three other RCC boats in the
vicinity. We hope to be up in Cariacou by next wekend where there is
another regatta. Even with our sparkling clean bottom I suspect we will
not be racing. There are not enough hours in the day.
