Chasing the World Cup

Oriole

From our anchorage in Carriacou we could find no possibility of watching the England-Australia match but had wind of a bar in Bequia (35 miles north) which might be persuaded to open up at 0500 and provide breakfast afterwards.  After a another spectacular dive on Tuesday off Carriacou we were looking at the charts prior to sailing up to Bequia on Wednesday.  John suddenly realised that Bequia at 13degrees N is outside our insured limit by 20 miles until the end of November.  But the wonders of modern communications came to our aid again. An email at 2200 local time to Fastnet Marine Insurance in Southampton and a rugby fanatic underwriter produced a sympathetic reply by 0800 next morning. So here we are in Bequia.  On Thursday we celebrated our 27th wedding anniversary with dinner at The Old Fort Inn, an old plantation house, with spectacular views, a fresh water swimming pool, and limitless hot water showers.
We made use of all the facilities and, still out of season, had undivided attention.
We awoke at 0400 on Saturday morning and were ashore at The Salty Dog for the kick-off at 0500.  Chris was in her element and the atmosphere electric.  When we could all relax again we consumed a hearty breakfast with sausages, black pudding, beans, bacon and eggs.
We returned to Oriole and dressed overall to celebrate and somewhat unconventionally are flying an enormous red ensign from the mast by courtesy of Cunard and John's late uncle Captain Jim Armstrong. Next week we return to the Southern Grenadines to search for Union Island again and meet up with Liz.
