Oriole launched
Oriole

The fortnight since we flew back to Grenada has
flown by and we finally launched Oriole on Thursday 23 October. We
returned to find her sitting happily in the yard apparently unaffected
by six months of Caribbean summer. The yard boys had removed our
winter cover and given her a clean off so we were able to get straight on with
the commissioning jobs. It has been extremely hot up to 35C in the middle
of the day and too hot to work on deck from 12-3pm. It was a real joy to
be able to walk back to La Sagesse, the little hotel in the next bay and cool
off in the sea before rum punch, supper and bed usually by 9pm. We
have been up at 5am and working shortly after 6 as the most productive time of
the day.
Oriole is now gleaming and all systems
functioning and we are lying at anchor off the yard in St David's. The
yard is a hive of activity and many owners are returning for the winter season
and we have met up with lots of old friends and put faces to a few we
had only heard on the radio.
There is a Wooden Boat Regatta this weekend and we
have been dragooned into being committee boat today, so we will have to put to
sea for the first time since March. We still have a few jobs to do and our
diving course to complete so will not be moving north for a week or two and will
remain in one or more of the lovely bays on the south coast.
