After two very jolly weeks in Falmouth Harbour over
Christmas we weighed anchor and sailed round to Deep Bay on the west
side of the island in preparation for a little solitude and a return to the
area inside the reefs on the north side.
We had a few breaks in the weather and
climbed to Fort Barrington overlooking Deep Bay.
However having stored for a few days the weather
deteriorated to give us several days of unrelenting rain and strong winds and we
were joined by Moonsong RCC and settled into a period of gastric and hepatic
stimulation over New Year while the weather decided to improve or
not.
Chris has made this awning to go over
the forehatch which in the squally weather has revolutionised our lives at
anchor.
Well, it did eventually improve, but by that time
we neeed to get back to Falmouth to collect our boom vang which was undergoing
minor repairs. So our return to the north side will have to wait for another
occasion. Our decision not to go there certainly protected our bank
balance as there would have been a serious temptation to visit one of the best
and most exclusive restaurants on one of the offshore islands.
Although we were on the other side of the island
the AIS once again told us exactly when Drumbeat left Falmouth to go off on
charter and we were able to identify that she had gone south to Guadeloupe
- great toy for boys - and girls. When Andrew returns provided we are in
the area he can tell exactly where we are anchored too!
The yellow labels show the yachts in
Falmouth as the AIS (automatic identification system) represents them on the
computer.
Oriole is the little green boat top
centre!
The close-up below shows the two J
Class yachts Velsheda and Ranger and an assortment of other expensive toys here
at the moment.
