29/12/02 Nonsuch Bay
The rot has really set
in and we have decided now not to go further north but to gently potter south,
we did not fancy a hard beat back to Antigua to drop Robert off. By the way the
boat we were talking about last week arrived safely in Barbados on Christmas
Eve. We had an excellent Christmas,
on Christmas Eve we had turkey and all the trimmings on Troubadour, Chris and
Annabelle sharing the preparation.
Christmas Day kicked off with a torrential downpour which fortunately
cleared in time for the champagne party in Nelson’s Dockyard followed by lunch
at the Admiral’s Inn. This was
accompanied by a wonderful steel band.
Boxing Day was spent relaxing and recovering on board, Andrew and his
house mate, Simon, came aboard for supper. On Friday we left Falmouth harbour
and had a beat up to Nonsuch Bay, all of 10miles!!! This is a large expanse of crystal clear
water facing east, protected from the Atlantic by a barrier reef. Yesterday was spent swimming and
snorkelling and today we moved further into the bay, passing the Mill Reef Club
and anchored off Harmony Hall (almost as exclusive) where Robert took his family
out for the most splendid Sunday lunch.
In a postprandial alcoholic haze we braved the coral heads in the fading
light to anchor amongst the mangroves in one of the most sheltered anchorages
hereabouts. As the sun goes down we
are watching pelicans fishing and a gentle breeze is blowing into the
cockpit.
