We left Camaret on Monday 19th August in a light
westerly wind and headed into the Bay of Biscay. The wind gradually went more
northerly and we were able to set our light weight genoa. The conditions
were ideal and we quickly settled into our watches, 4hrs each during the day and
3hrs at night. Tuesday was a glorious day and at about 1400 we spotted our first
whales blowing in the distance. They gradually came closer until one swam
under our towed generator rope, fortunately they came no closer. We did not
encounter much shipping although as we approached the Spanish coast there were
more fishing boats in evidence.
We saw lots of dolphin, shoals of tuna, put out our
fishing lines but caught nothing. At 2000 on Thursday 22nd August we
dropped anchor in Camarinas having had a very pleasant crossing. Yesterday
we came on down to the Ria Muros, having rounded Cape Finistere
and had a fast and furious sail with the wind astern. We had a
pleasant evening with the Ingrams on Troubadour by prior arrangement.
We are now in Portosin marina, just across the bay from the town of Muros, it is
blowing quite hard but we are well sheltered in here. It is hot and
sunny!
