We found James and Sarah at the bar. For sundowners. Earlier in the day, we'd dropped the girls off at Jolly Harbour's pool and did a shop. A big shop. Seven on board! Our new Quest record. Before our provision, we gave the girls strict instructions to keep putting sun cream on Amalie. ‘Yeah, yeah,’ they said and swam off. The shop entailed a lot of looking at posh stuff and then buying value brand. Oh, Antigua (sigh). Finally we ended up with all our bags at the dinghy dock and told Sarah and James to go to the pool. ‘We’ll catch you up,’ we said, ‘we’ll just put the food away first.’

Eventually, Jack left me surrounded by my exclusive friends, the food tins, and joined them. He brought the girls back first and left James and Sarah again at the dinghy dock. ‘I’ll come and get you in a few minutes,’ he told them. Ah, the fun of the staggered dinghy journey.. anyone left behind faces an uncertain future! Meanwhile, the girls had a great swim. Amalie was still beautifully cream-coloured while the Quest kids were the colour of wannabe lobsters.. Great example, girls.. Well, after an hour putting after-sun lotion on, looking for our little movie hard drive, looking for the hydrocortisone cream and poking around Quest for a whole host of surely fairy-hidden objects (talking to YOU, Tinkerbell) we finally went back to get James and Sarah.

They waved to us from the bar as we approached. ‘We’re testing how you guys live,’ they said. The sun was just starting to turn into gold. ‘Want a drink?’ Now, we’ve known our friends for a long time. In and out of each other’s houses. Our lives joined by school timetables and a common love of Welsh backwaters. Stirring cups of tea on Saturday nights, watching the world spin by our spoons while we’re anchored to our chairs. Glad to be anchored together. ‘Here we are on holiday and you guys live here,’ they said. I looked around, impressed. We’d never even been to this bar before. We’d always walked right past it. We sat down together. Let the world spin by. And it was nice. Really nice.

Love from Quest and her brand-new-seven-man crew xx
