How do you make time slow down? From hearing an excerpt of Claudia Hammond’s book, Time Warped: Unlocking the Mysteries of Time Perception, time is supposed to go slower in your mind if you are creating new memories. This is why the trip going somewhere you’ve never been to before always seems to take longer than the trip back. On the way there, you're carving out new memories. Your brain processing seems to slow time down, making everything seem like it’s taking longer. The drive back; you’ve already seen these places so you sit back. Like the landmarks you now recognise, time speeds past.

So the answer; if you want to make time go slower, do things you’ve never done before. Take trips to places you’ve never been to. See things brand new for the first time. Apparently, carving out new memories doesn’t make the clock on your wall tick slower per se, but it makes the clock in your head decelerate. These are the golden moments in our lives, that when we look back, seem to have lasted forever.

Good luck! (since we all need it…:)
