We thought scuba diving was our only love. Then we got to Josiah’s Bay and read Steve’s surf leaflet: 'Warning: this may change your life’. It’s true; after two days, surfing has changed our lives! Lulu has red welts along her arm and hands like she had a brief fight with a blender. Steve concluded she needs a long-sleeve rashie and an epoxy board. Meanwhile, the Cap’s torso's taken a pounding, Delphine fell off a sand cliff walking down Josiah’s Bay’s fantastic beach and strained her leg and one side of my foot is going camouflage-coloured after getting it stuck in a nest of rocks pushing Delph towards her boogie-boarding wave. We had the best time!

When the clouds came out, we remembered our miniature hire car. Wishing the BVI surf school a good afternoon, we passed sheep trotting down the roads like they were late for appointments and climbed Tortola’s surprisingly cliff-hugging roads. We passed the International School, found an enormous hardware store where we bought all the plastering spreaders we use for hull scraping in a fit of spiteful boat-based gluttony and drove the streets of Road Town. ‘This place looks different in a car!’ we took turns exclaiming. Car heaven. We even passed our supermarket trolley waiting for us in the bushes.

Love from Quest and her crew xx
