For the first time since Europe, we went to the airport and rented a car! Driving here feels completely strange. What do you mean we can just drive to the supermarket instead of dinghying to the closest possible location and commandeering a trolley to walk the half a mile back? It was the new normal.

The next day, armed with bacon and egg baguettes, we drove to Tortola’s north shore at Josiah’s Bay. We’d heard of a surf school there. What a place! It turns out that Ben Gunn is still alive and well and has moved to Josiah’s Bay. He has two dogs, though another turned up the other day. After his 82-year old owner died, this dog followed the road down to the beach, sniffing his way towards a good meal. He certainly found the good life at a 40-foot shipping container filled with wetsuits, surf boards and photos of waves.

Ben Gunn, aka Steve taught Lulu to surf yesterday. They were at it for hours. Good thing we gave him the second half of Delph’s baguette that she couldn’t eat.. she looks really happy about it, no? We had to make her sand shoes to cheer her up. ‘Come on, Lulu!’ we shouted at the end of the day, ‘we gotta go!’ Lu surfed in on her yellow board. ‘Can we come again tomorrow?’
